IK Multimedia TONEX ONE Double Special Limited Edition Pedal

The TONEX ONE Double Special is a limited edition TONEX ONE pedal built around two of the rarest amps in IK Multimedia’s private vault: a pair of Overdrive Special combos. It is made for players chasing that smooth, vocal, touch-sensitive overdrive associated with boutique D-style amps, and for collectors, since only 1,000 units exist worldwide. The pedal is made in Italy and finished in a custom vintage brown.

The two amps behind it

IK captured two original Overdrive Special combos with TONEX V2 AI Machine Modeling. Each has its own character:

• Late-1970s export model: an open top end, mids that bloom as you dig in, and a very touch-sensitive response.
• 1980 model: faster transients and more articulation when the gain goes up.

The amps were captured through custom open-back cabinets with period-correct speakers, using several microphone pairings, channel setups and gain settings.

What the limited edition includes

• 20 exclusive Premium Tone Models loaded on the pedal. These are not part of the standard Double Special collection and are only available with this edition.
• The Double Special TONEX Signature Collection: 40 Premium Tone Models of the two amps, with and without cabinet, plus complete rigs.
• The ODS Legends Signature Collection: 20 Tone Models from four more Overdrive Special amps, for six amps across the whole package.
• TONEX SE software for managing, editing and creating Tone Models.

Boosted rigs

Overdrive Special amps are often played with a pedal in front to push the preamp harder, so the collection includes full rigs with three classic boosts in front of the amps: a gold Klon Centaur, an Ibanez TS10 and a JHS Morning Glory. Each gives a different push: the Klon adds clean volume and grit, the TS10 tightens the low end and lifts the mids, and the Morning Glory adds a more transparent, open drive. Having them captured with the amp means you get the combined rig response, not a separate pedal model stacked on top.

The TONEX ONE underneath

Under the brown finish it is a standard TONEX ONE. Three micro knobs handle bass, mid and treble, with noise gate, compressor and reverb as their second functions, plus a VOL/GAIN knob and one footswitch. You also get delay and modulation effects, a cabinet section with IK’s VIR cabinets and an IR loader, and a tuner. The pedal holds 20 presets with three playable slots, switched in Stomp mode (on/off) or Dual mode (A/B between two presets). Safe mode locks your settings, and the knob LEDs can be set to different colours.

Connections are a 1/4″ mono instrument input, a 1/4″ TRS output for stereo, mono or headphones, and USB-C. Over USB-C it loads Tone Models, takes power from a computer and works as a 24-bit/44.1 kHz audio interface for recording. Browse our audio interfaces if you need more inputs. On a pedalboard it runs from a 9 V DC supply, sold separately.

Double Special pedal vs buying the collection

If you already own TONEX hardware, IK also sells the Double Special Signature Collection on its own. The limited edition pedal goes further: it adds the 20 exclusive Tone Models that are not sold anywhere else, unlocks the ODS Legends collection as well, and gives you a dedicated pedal in a finish only 1,000 players will have. The Double Special collection is made for the TONEX ecosystem, which includes TONEX Pedal, TONEX ONE and the TONEX software, and is managed with the TONEX Editor on Mac or PC.

Can I load other tones onto it?

Yes. It is a full TONEX ONE, so any preset can be replaced with other Tone Models from TONEX or ToneNET.

Is a power supply included?

No. Use a 9 V DC pedal supply, or power it over USB-C from a computer.
