The TONEX Pedal Bass Edition is IK Multimedia’s full-size AI amp-modelling pedal loaded for bass players, with 150 bass-focused presets built from the TONEX Signature Bass Collection. It is made for gigging and recording bassists who want the sound of real bass amps, cabinets and preamps on a pedalboard, in the studio or straight into a PA, without carrying a heavy rig.
150 bass presets built from real bass rigs
The pedal ships with 150 presets organised into 50 banks. Each bank is centred on a classic bass amp and gives you three tone options, so you can move from a clean, round DI-style sound to a gritty, driven tone within the same bank. The presets come from the TONEX Signature Bass Collection, a set of 150 Tone Models captured from bass amps and rigs and optimised for the low end.
The Tone Models are created with IK’s AI Machine Modeling (AIMM) technology, which captures the behaviour of a real amp, preamp or pedal rather than approximating it with generic algorithms. You can swap in other Tone Models from your own library or from ToneNET, IK’s online community where players share their captures.
Solid low end with dry/wet phase alignment
A common problem when blending a clean DI with an amp model is phase cancellation that thins out the bottom end. The Bass Edition addresses this with improved phase correlation between the dry and processed signals, so when you blend the two the lows stay full and punchy. This is especially useful for players who like a clean DI underneath a driven amp tone.
15 onboard effects, cab sims and IR loader
Alongside the amp models you get 15 pre- and post-amp effects, including compressor, noise gate, chorus, flanger, phaser, tremolo, rotary, delays and reverbs. VIR multi-IR cabinet simulation and a custom IR loader let you use IK’s cabinets or your own impulse responses. A built-in tuner keeps you in tune on stage.
Built for the stage and the studio
The TONEX Pedal Bass Edition uses the same rugged aluminium hardware as the standard TONEX Pedal, here in an aluminium-silver finish with an all-over neural pattern. Connections include a 1/4″ instrument input, stereo 1/4″ outputs, a headphone output for silent practice, an expression pedal input, MIDI In/Out for integration with MIDI controllers, and USB.
Over USB it doubles as a 24-bit/44.1 kHz audio interface, so you can record your bass tone straight into your DAW. Internally, conversion runs at 24-bit/192 kHz with a 5 Hz to 24 kHz frequency response and up to 123 dB dynamic range, keeping the extended low end that bass needs.
Software included
The pedal comes with a strong software package for Mac and PC:
- TONEX Editor for browsing, editing and transferring presets and Tone Models to the pedal in real time.
- TONEX CS and TONEX Modeler for creating your own Tone Models of your amps and pedals.
- TONEX Signature Bass Collection unlocked.
- AmpliTube 5 with the AmpliTube SVX 1 & 2 bass amp collections, for building full bass rigs on your computer.
Setup tips
- Going direct to the PA or interface: keep the cab sim on so the front of house hears a finished tone, and use the stereo outputs if you run stereo effects.
- Into a bass amp: try running into the amp’s effects return, so the pedal’s amp model is not coloured a second time by the amp’s own preamp.
- Recording: connect via USB and record the processed tone. If you also want a clean track for re-amping later, split your bass with a DI box into a second channel of your audio interface.
- Silent practice: plug headphones into the headphone output and play along with tracks from your computer.
Who is the TONEX Pedal Bass Edition for?
- Gigging bassists who want a light, consistent rig that sounds the same at every venue.
- Studio and home recording bassists who need real amp tones without miking a cabinet.
- Session and fill-in players who need many different bass sounds from one pedal.
- Multi-instrumentalists already using TONEX for guitar who want the same workflow on bass.
Guitarists should look at the standard TONEX Pedal or other guitar effects pedals; the Bass Edition’s preset content is tuned specifically for bass.
TONEX Pedal Bass Edition vs TONEX ONE Bass Edition and TONEX Pedal
vs TONEX ONE Bass Edition: the TONEX ONE Bass is a compact mini pedal with 20 presets, ideal for a crowded board or as a simple preamp. The Pedal Bass Edition holds 150 presets in 50 banks with on-stage controls for fast tone switching, MIDI, an expression input and a high-visibility display, so it suits players who switch between many tones in a set.
vs the standard TONEX Pedal: the hardware is the same. The difference is the content: the Bass Edition comes loaded with bass presets and Tone Models and the Signature Bass Collection, plus bass-focused AmpliTube SVX software, instead of guitar-focused content. For a complete live setup, pair it with gear from our amplification range.
