The TONEX ONE+ is IK Multimedia’s ultra-compact amp modelling pedal for guitarists and bass players who want real amp, cab and pedal tones on a crowded pedalboard, in a gig bag, or on the desk next to their computer. It keeps the same tiny footprint as the original TONEX ONE and adds two things players kept asking for: wireless editing from a phone and full MIDI control.

What’s new on the TONEX ONE+

The original TONEX ONE needed a computer for deep editing. The ONE+ connects over Bluetooth to the free TONEX Control app on iOS and Android, so you can browse tones, adjust parameters and send new Tone Models to the pedal from your phone at rehearsal or on stage.

It also gains a pair of TRS MIDI jacks (In and Out) alongside USB MIDI. That means a MIDI controller, a switcher or your DAW can recall any of the 20 presets and change settings in real time. MIDI Thru and Merge are programmable, and the pedal can follow MIDI Clock from a DAW or pedalboard controller.

How the tone works

TONEX uses IK’s AI Machine Modeling to capture the sound and feel of a real rig and save it as a Tone Model. The ONE+ ships with the exclusive Signature+ Collection of 100 Premium Tone Models, with 20 loaded on the pedal, and gives you access to ToneNET, IK’s library of Tone Models shared by players around the world. Tone Models made for other TONEX pedals and the TONEX software also run on the ONE+.

Around each Tone Model you get a noise gate, compressor, 3-band EQ, modulation, delay and reverb, plus a built-in tuner with mute or thru. A cabinet bypass removes the cab simulation when you want to run into a real power amp and speaker cabinet.

Controls and footswitch modes

There is one main knob, three illuminated micro knobs, an ALT button with LED and a single footswitch. The 20 presets are mapped to three playable slots, A, B and C. In Stomp mode the footswitch turns one preset on and off, like a drive pedal. In Dual mode it switches between two presets, for example a clean rhythm sound and a lead tone. Edits save automatically, and Safe Mode locks the settings so a stray foot or a bumped knob cannot change your sound mid-gig.

Connections and recording

The ONE+ has a 1/4″ TS instrument input and a 1/4″ TRS stereo output that can feed a guitar amp, an FRFR speaker, a PA or headphones for silent practice. Over USB it works as a 2-in/2-out audio interface at 24-bit/44.1 kHz, so you can record straight into your DAW without extra hardware. If you are building a recording setup, see our range of audio interfaces for options with more inputs. Bluetooth can also stream audio from your phone, which is handy for playing along to backing tracks. The pedal runs on a 9 V DC centre-negative supply and has no battery compartment.

Setup tips

  • Into an amp’s front input: use Tone Models of pedals or amps without cab simulation, or switch on cabinet bypass, so you do not double up on speaker colouring.
  • Into a PA or FRFR: keep the cab on and use the stereo output if you want the reverb and modulation spread across two channels.
  • Two pedals: link two ONE+ units with MIDI to build a dual-amp or stereo rig, with one preset change switching both.
  • Bass: load bass amp Tone Models and use the compressor to keep the low end even.

Who is it for?

The TONEX ONE+ suits players who want amp-level tone in the smallest possible space: fly-in gigs, busy pedalboards, a backup rig, quiet home practice through headphones, or recording guitar and bass at a small desk. It is also a strong fit for anyone already running MIDI on their board, since the pedal now joins that system properly.

It is not the best choice if you want to switch between many sounds hands-free from a single unit. One footswitch gives you two presets at a time, so players who change tones constantly may prefer a larger floor unit or browse our guitar amplification range.

TONEX ONE vs TONEX ONE+

Both share the same compact size and TONEX modelling. The ONE+ adds Bluetooth editing through the TONEX Control app, TRS MIDI In and Out, Bluetooth audio streaming and the Signature+ Collection. If you edit tones on a computer and never use MIDI, the original TONEX ONE covers the basics. If you want to tweak tones from your phone or control the pedal from a MIDI rig, the ONE+ is the one to get. Compare more compact options in our guitar effects pedals category.

TONEX ONE+ FAQ

What is the difference between the TONEX ONE and the TONEX ONE+?

The ONE+ adds Bluetooth control through the TONEX Control app, TRS MIDI In and Out, Bluetooth audio streaming and the Signature+ Collection, in the same compact enclosure.

Does the TONEX ONE+ work with bass?

Yes. It is designed for both guitar and bass, and you can load bass amp and cab Tone Models onto it.

Can I use it with headphones or record with it?

Yes. The TRS stereo output doubles as a headphone output, and over USB the pedal works as a 2-in/2-out audio interface for recording into a DAW.

Do I need a computer to edit tones?

No. The TONEX Control app on iOS or Android lets you edit and transfer tones over Bluetooth. The TONEX Editor for Mac and PC is still available for library management and backups.

Can I run two TONEX ONE+ pedals together?

Yes. Using MIDI you can link two pedals for a stereo or dual-amp setup and switch them together.

What power supply does it need?

A 9 V DC centre-negative supply, the standard type used on most pedalboards. There is no battery option.
