The TONEX Board is IK Multimedia’s all-in-one amp modeler and multi-effects floorboard for guitarists and bassists who want their entire rig, from amps and pedals to cabinets and effects, in one pedalboard-sized unit. It is built for gigging players going amp-less, home players who want great tone at low volume, and anyone recording direct.
TONEX Tone Models: real amps and pedals, captured
TONEX uses AI-based capture to model real amplifiers, pedals, cabinets and full rigs, called Tone Models. The TONEX Board ships with 2,000 Premium Tone Models, including nearly 200 from IK’s Tone Partners, covering vintage classics, famous amps, high-gain monsters and pedals. Through IK’s ToneNET community you can access more than 60,000 additional Tone Models and presets, and with the included TONEX Modeler software you can capture your own gear.
Four Tone Models, two signal paths
Earlier TONEX pedals focus on one Tone Model at a time. The TONEX Board runs up to four Tone Models in a single preset, one amp and one stomp per path, across two independent signal paths. That opens up dual-amp tones, parallel and stereo rigs, wet/dry setups, or a separate guitar and bass chain, with each path routable to its own input and outputs. Up to 12 slots per chain can be filled and positioned freely, with splitters and mixers for complex routing.
76 effects and an IR loader
The board includes 76 effects across nine categories: 51 from IK’s AmpliTube, 15 from TONEX and 10 new guitar and bass effects. Drives, compressors, modulation, delays and reverbs are all on board, so you do not need a separate pedalboard. A custom IR loader with IK’s VIR cabinet technology lets you load your own cabinet impulse responses.
Touchscreen and three performance modes
A 5-inch colour touchscreen and push-rotary encoders make editing on the floor quick. Four footswitches with LEDs work in three modes:
- Preset mode: each switch recalls a complete preset, ideal for jumping between songs.
- Scene mode: switch between variations of one preset, for example verse, chorus and solo, without changing the whole rig.
- Stomp mode: switches turn individual effects on and off, like a traditional pedalboard.
Storage holds up to 1,440 presets organised into 12 setlists.
Connections for stage and studio
- Two independent stereo outputs: balanced XLR outputs for the PA and 1/4-inch TRS outputs for amps or monitors, each with its own output EQ.
- Stereo FX loop: use it as one stereo loop or two mono loops, and place it anywhere in the chain.
- 4-cable method: run your preamp sounds into a real amp’s input and your time effects in its effects loop.
- MIDI In/Out: 5-pin DIN for switching and syncing with other gear.
- Two expression/external control inputs: for wah, volume or parameter control.
- Headphone output: for silent practice.
- USB-C: for preset and Tone Model management, firmware updates and USB audio.
Record direct with USB audio
The TONEX Board includes a 4-in/2-out USB audio interface with direct monitoring, delivered through a free firmware update, so you can record straight into your DAW without a separate audio interface. Keep the firmware up to date to get the latest features. The bundle of included software, TONEX, TONEX 2 MAX and AmpliTube 5 MAX as standalone apps and plug-ins, gives you the same tones on your computer for reamping and mixing.
Who is it for?
- Good fit: gigging guitarists and bassists who want to go direct to the PA with consistent tone every night.
- Good fit: existing TONEX users who want more Tone Models per preset, more effects and more routing; existing presets can be imported.
- Good fit: home players and producers who want amp tones at any volume and an all-in-one recording tool.
- Not the best fit: players who only need one amp sound and a couple of effects, where a smaller TONEX pedal is simpler and more compact.
TONEX Board vs earlier TONEX pedals
The TONEX Board builds on the same Tone Model technology as IK’s earlier TONEX pedals, but adds two parallel signal paths, up to four simultaneous Tone Models, a 76-effect library, a touchscreen, a movable stereo FX loop, XLR outputs and expanded MIDI. If you already own TONEX gear, your Tone Models and presets can move across. Browse more guitar effects pedals and guitar amplification, or pair it with our headphones for silent practice.
