The iRig Keys I/O 25 is a 25-key MIDI keyboard controller with a full audio interface built in, so one unit gives you keys, pads, a mic or guitar input, studio monitor outputs and a headphone output. It suits mobile producers working on iPad or iPhone, laptop musicians who want a single box on a small desk, and songwriters who want to capture ideas away from the studio.

A MIDI keyboard and audio interface in one

Most portable setups need a separate MIDI keyboard, an audio interface and several cables. The iRig Keys I/O 25 combines them. The keyboard sends MIDI to your app or DAW, while the interface records and plays back audio at up to 24-bit/96 kHz. You can play a software instrument, record a vocal or guitar part, and listen on headphones or monitors, all through a single connection to your device.

Full-size keys in a small footprint

The 25 keys are full-size and velocity-sensitive with a synth-action feel, so your playing technique carries straight over from a normal keyboard. The whole unit measures 373 x 208 x 65 mm and weighs about 1.26 kg without batteries, small enough for a backpack or a crowded desk.

Pads and touch-sensitive controls

Eight velocity-sensitive, multicolour pads handle drums, samples and clip launching. Two touch strips default to pitch bend and modulation and can be reassigned. Four touch-sensitive knobs switch between two banks, giving eight controls, and a push knob handles volume and data entry. An LED display shows values as you tweak, and the octave, program change and transport controls let you drive your DAW without reaching for the mouse. Every control can be assigned to MIDI CC.

The built-in audio interface

A combo input on the back accepts a microphone, a line-level source or a guitar or bass. It has a 46 dB gain range for mics and a separate high-impedance setting for instruments. 48V phantom power is available for condenser microphones, and it works on battery power too, which is unusual in a portable unit.

On the output side you get two balanced 1/4″ TRS outputs for active studio monitors and a 3.5 mm headphone output. That headphone output is useful on iPhones and iPads that no longer have a headphone jack.

Power anywhere: USB or batteries

Connected to a Mac or PC, the iRig Keys I/O 25 runs on USB bus power. With an iPhone or iPad, or when a laptop port can’t supply enough power, it runs on four AA batteries (included). An optional power supply, sold separately, can also charge a connected iOS device during long sessions.

Who is it for?

  • iPad and iPhone producers who want real keys and a proper mic/guitar input in one unit
  • Laptop musicians who want to travel with one box instead of a keyboard plus a separate interface
  • Singer-songwriters capturing vocal and keyboard ideas at home or on the road
  • Logic Pro and GarageBand users: IK offers a control surface plugin for both after product registration

Who should look elsewhere?

The iRig Keys I/O 25 has a single input, so it can’t record two mics or a stereo source at once. Twenty-five keys also limit two-handed piano playing. If you need more inputs, browse our audio interfaces. If you need more keys, see our MIDI keyboards range, or consider the 49-key version of the iRig Keys I/O.

iRig Keys I/O 25 vs iRig Pro Duo I/O

Both are portable IK interfaces that run on batteries. The iRig Pro Duo I/O gives you two preamps for recording two sources at once, but no keys. The iRig Keys I/O 25 gives you one input plus a full MIDI keyboard, pads and controls. If you mainly record a single vocal or guitar and play software instruments, the Keys I/O 25 replaces two devices. If you record duets, interviews or stereo sources, the Pro Duo I/O paired with a separate keyboard is the better fit.

iRig Keys I/O 25 FAQ

Does it work with an iPhone that has no headphone jack?

Yes. The keyboard has its own audio interface and headphone output, so you can monitor through it while the phone is connected.

Does phantom power work on batteries?

Yes. The 48V phantom power for condenser microphones is available when the unit runs on its AA batteries.

Is a microphone included?

No. The combo input accepts your own microphone, guitar or line source. Browse our condenser microphones if you need one.

Is a power adapter included?

No. It runs on USB bus power or the included AA batteries. IK’s optional power supply is sold separately.

Do I need a driver on Windows?

For low-latency recording on Windows, use the driver IK provides on its support site. On iPhone, iPad and Mac it works plug-and-play.

Can I use it as a standalone instrument?

No. It has no built-in sounds. It controls software instruments in an app or DAW on your device.
