A complete MIDI interface that fits in your bag

The MIDIMATE eX from ESI does one job and does it cleanly: it connects 5-pin MIDI gear to your computer over USB, with no separate box, no power adaptor and no driver disc. One end is a USB Type-A plug; the other splits into two standard 5-pin MIDI DIN connectors. Because the whole interface is built into the cable, it is the kind of thing you can leave permanently in a laptop bag or a studio drawer until you need it.

Two ports, assigned the way you work

Both MIDI connectors are independent, and each one can act as an input or an output. Use one In and one Out for a single keyboard, two Ins to bring in two controllers, or two Outs to drive a pair of sound modules — up to 32 MIDI channels in total, 16 per port. The connection is optimised for USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports for a low-latency link, and stays compatible with older USB 1.1 hosts.

Plug in and play

The MIDIMATE eX is class-compliant, so Windows and macOS recognise it on their own with no driver installation — on Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8.1, 10 and 11, and on macOS in both 32-bit and 64-bit systems. It draws all of its power from the USB port. For more demanding Windows setups, ESI offers an optional MIDI Port driver that enables multi-device and multi-client operation, so more than one application can address the interface at the same time.
