This Ringway TG8862 black digital piano comes in a polished ebony upright cabinet with a matching bench, the classic look of a traditional piano. It has 88 weighted hammer-action keys, three pedals and built-in lessons, which suits families buying a first piano, beginners and returning players, and anyone who wants a black upright in the living room without the tuning and upkeep of an acoustic piano.
An 88-key weighted keyboard
The TG8862 has the full 88-key range of an acoustic piano. Its keys use a weighted hammer action with touch response: they feel heavier than a portable keyboard, and they play louder or softer depending on how hard you press. That matters for learners, because finger strength and dynamic control transfer directly to an acoustic piano at lessons or exams.
Three pedals, as on an acoustic upright
Three pedals sit under the cabinet: sustain, soft and sostenuto. Many entry-level digital pianos include only a single sustain pedal, so having all three lets students learn proper pedal technique from the start.
Sounds and accompaniment
As well as the main grand piano tone, the TG8862 has 480 PCM voices and 11 drum kits, covering electric pianos, organs, strings, brass and more. You can layer two voices (dual), split the keyboard between two sounds, and shape the tone with bass and treble EQ, 10 reverb types and 13 chorus types. Built-in accompaniment styles with intro, ending, fill-ins and variation give you a backing band for practice or play-along fun, and the five banks of eight registration memories store your favourite set-ups.
Learning and practice features
- 106 built-in lessons plus 16 demos to show off the sounds
- Metronome with tempo from 20 to 280 BPM
- Twin mode, which splits the keyboard into two identical halves so a teacher and student can play side by side
- Real-time recording and playback to USB, so you can hear your own progress
- Two headphone outputs for quiet practice at any hour
Connections
A USB to host port connects the piano to a computer for music software and learning apps. Full MIDI In, Out and Thru ports connect it to other MIDI gear, and Line In and Line Out let you play backing tracks through the piano or send its sound to an amplifier or recording setup. If you plan to record, see our audio interfaces.
Who is the black Ringway TG8862 for?
- Families buying a first proper piano for children starting lessons
- Adult beginners and returning players who want weighted keys and three pedals
- Homes that want the timeless look of a black upright piano
- Apartments and shared homes, where headphone practice keeps the peace
Who should look elsewhere?
The TG8862 is a furniture-style upright, so it is not designed to be moved to gigs. Gigging players are better served by a portable stage piano or a controller from our MIDI keyboards range. If you want a small, light keyboard for a young child to experiment on, a 61-key instrument is the cheaper and simpler choice.
Ringway TG8862 vs Artesia Fun-1
The Artesia Fun-1 is a 61-key keyboard for young children and makes a fun first instrument. The TG8862 has the full 88 keys, a weighted hammer action and three pedals in a furniture cabinet. Choose the Fun-1 if your child is just starting to explore music. Choose the TG8862 once they are taking lessons or practising regularly. See all our digital pianos and keyboards.
Placement and care tips
- High-gloss black shows dust and fingerprints more than lighter finishes, so wipe it with a soft, dry microfibre cloth rather than household sprays.
- Keep the piano out of strong direct sunlight and away from heaters to protect the gloss.
- Place the piano against a wall with a little space behind it so the sound has room to open up.
- Close the keyboard cover when you’ve finished playing to keep dust off the keys.

Can I connect it to a computer?
Yes. The USB to host port connects to a computer for music software and learning apps, and MIDI In/Out/Thru connect it to other MIDI gear.
Is it suitable for piano exams and lessons?
